Last Call for Restaurant Memories!

Here are the comments we have received so far about some of the
past restaurants in Oak Lawn. These were the places where our community gathered to chow down and enjoy each other's company. Nice memories! Thanks to Jan,Wally, oaklawn70 and dvhmaine for their contributions!

dvhmaine, you are really going back! What a different landscape it was then! Flies are nutritious, aren't they? Was Ben Heralds the place with the Polar Bear sculptures which the kids could sit on?

2 Prince Castle locations were in town. One where ... 2 Prince Castle locations were in town. One where John's Freshline grocery store is located and one where the oil change business is located at Cicero and 93rd. As kids we would hang out at one until we were asked to leave and then walk to the other one to just hang out some more.

I worked at Edmunds as an after school job during high school, around '73 - '74. I was the salad bar girl!! Frankly, I was impressed with the food, but what did I know?!?

The Regency Steak House on 95th Street, The Rustler Steak House on 103rd & Cicero, The Branding Iron Restaurant, and Veli's original restaurant at 95th and Cicero which was then called Dimpy's Diner.

As for Dimpy's, it was attached to the west side of the Goodyear Tire store/frozen meat locker store at 95th and Cicero. The Rustler was at 103rd & Cicero where Fuller's Car Wash is now. As for Nielson's Nordic, it also later became Halleran's Oak Lawn Chalet. Let me know it you need more.

  1. Some restaurants I can recall are:

Papachino'a where Charter One Bank is located now, right next door to Walgreen's on 95th St.

Carver's Restaurant, where Fuller's Car Wash is now

What was the name of the restaurant after the Rustler Steak House closed? Was it a Ponderosa?
